Air is supplied to the diffusers via a piping system connected to a blower. The diffusers are typically installed at the bottom of a tank or lagoon.
- Air Distribution: Compressed air flows into the hollow interior of the tube diffuser.
- Bubble Formation: The air is forced out through tiny perforations or slits in a flexible membrane (commonly EPDM or silicone) that surrounds a support pipe.
- Oxygen Transfer: These micro-sized bubbles rise slowly through the water, creating a large surface area for oxygen to dissolve into the liquid. This maximizes the oxygen transfer efficiency (OTE).
- Backflow Prevention: When the air supply is stopped, the elastic membrane contracts and seals the pores, preventing water from flowing back into the air supply lines and clogging the system
